Abstract

A biostratigraphic study of calcareous nannofossils from the Mojen of the NE Iran has allowed the recognition of seven calcareous nannofossil biozones by Sissingh (Geol En Minjbouw 56: 37–65, 1977), CC20–CC26 in Mojen section. According to these biozones, the age of the studied sections in Mojen is Late Early Campanian–Late Maastrichtian. In this study, 38 samples of Mojen were taken and prepared with smear slide. As a result of this study, 23 genera and 41 species of nannofossils in Mojen section have been identified. On the base of paleoecological interpretation, the last layers related to the Cretaceous deposits in this section were deposited in shallow marine environment in relatively low latitude, and the depth of the basin from Cretaceous deposits toward Fajan Formation decreased.
