Abstract

Cai Luong (Renovated Theatre), a theatre form created by Southerners in Vietnam, is the confluence of cultural elements within the country as well as across its border, along the history of the Southern land. This paper contributes to theatre literature in general and Southeast Asian theatre literature in particular by painting an overall picture of the contemporary situation of Cai Luong theatrical art and, through the analysis of cultural transfer in Cai Luong art, deciphering the hybrid nature of Cai Luong theatrical art.
