Abstract

Abstract ‘Blue Heaven’ cabbage were seeded on Aug 5 in Sassafras sandy loam soil in single rows, 25 ft long plots in a randomized complete block design replicated 4 times; a guard row buffered each treated row. Sprays were applied with a tractor-mounted sprayer equipped with 1 drop nozzle on either side of the row and 1 nozzle over the center calibrated to deliver 45 gal/A at 40 psi. Granular treatments were sidedressed on Sep 1 and foliar treatments were applied Sep 9, Sep 15 and Sep 24. Evaluations for the various treatments included direct larval counts, foliage injury ratings, and percent marketable heads. Foliage injury ratings are expressed as percent defoliation. Yields (percent marketable heads) were taken on Oct 28 and defined as cabbage heads with no visible feeding and at least 2 undamaged wrapper leaves.
