Abstract
Connectivity services which are provided by telecommunication operators only contributing a small share of the Internet of Things (IoT) revenue opportunity. The IoT grow enabling evolution of technology in the telecommunications sector that is provide a new wave of life-enhancing services across the economy. In order to take the opportunity, telecommunication operators need to revitalize the business model as an effort to survive in the IoT ecosystem. This paper aims to analyze the IoT business model which is provided by telecommunication operators and its implication on telecommunication regulation in Indonesia which focuses on license model for IoT provider. The data are obtained from various sources included from stakeholder's perspective on IoT implementation. In general, business models on IoT are built of an ecosystem which consists of devices, networks, platforms and applications. As its implication into telecommunication operator license structure in Indonesia, there are some scenarios that should acquire license to provide the IoT service. This paper recommends that telecommunication operator should leverage their strategy business model which is supported by the government policy to win the IoT opportunity in Indonesia.
