Abstract
ONE OF our foremost newspaper editors here appraises for QUARTERLY readers the work of OWI as it is affecting the newspaper and the war correspondent. Mr. Mowrer's background as editor, war correspondent, writer, and poet makes him an apt critic. During World War I he organized and directed the Chicago Daily News war service in France and was one of the first accredited war correspondents attached to the Allied forces. Throughout the twenties he served as foreign correspondent in Europe and North Africa, and in I928 was awarded the Pulitzer prize in recognition of his distinguished work. In I934 he returned to the United States to become associate editor of the Chicago Daily News and the following year was promoted to the editor's chair, a position he now holds.
