Abstract

The concept of ecocriticism discusses the main problems of the environmental crisis and the threat due to hazardous waste, pollution, and deforestation. This study briefly discusses environmental crisis, blue humanities, deep ecology, and ecocritical issues depicted in multimodal genres, such as picture books and graphic novels. Ecocriticism is an interdisciplinary study of literature and the environment, in which all sciences are brought together to assess the environment. Its goal is to identify solutions to the current environmental conditions in both natural and man-made habitats around the world (Mambrol, 2016). Multimodal genres discuss various ecocritical aspects, such as deep ecology and blue humanities (Gillis, 2013). The ideology of deep ecology depicts the awareness of the essential values of all living things, as well as the development of the environment (Malavasi, 2016). Multimodal genres portray various themes and characteristics of global issues, including environmental problems, plastic waste, and industrial (Pacheco-Costa et al, 2020).
