Abstract

ENTOMOLOGY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEbraska-Lincoln has a long history of responding positively to requests from schools for presentations and visits to our facilities, but we were not engaged in planning youth outreach programming as a creative activity. In 1996, we began to expiore the idea of offering an annual weeklong insect education event and inviting large numbers of students to participate. We began by visiting Bug Bowl, Purdue University's outstanding public outreach event. We quickly were sold on the model of a fun but education-focused event and decided to call our event Bug Bash.
