In the program, which took place at the ASHA Convention, participants had the opportunity to gain insight into their own leadership skills and a better understanding of how leaders effect change in their professional association. The students participate in activities to increase their awareness of the association, including observing committees and boards, and have direct access to association leaders through networking at the MSLP Leadership Simulation, the Multicultural Concerns Collective (MC2) meeting, and other convention events. Thirty undergraduate and master’s students have traditionally participated in the program; in 2006, 10 doctoral students were added, further developing the leadership skills of future teacher/scholars in the discipline.
