Abstract

A deflection-type perturbation technique is proposed to solve the nonlinear Karman equations of rectangular unsymmetrically laminated angle-ply composite plates with simply supported edges in uniaxial and biaxial compression. Higher-order asymptotic expansions for postbuckling behavior of the plates are constructed by this approach. Effects of initial imperfection, lamination angle and number of layers on buckling and postbuckling of the plates are examined. In some specific cases numerical results obtained from the present solution are in fairly good agreement with other theoretical predictions.
