Abstract

Abstract This article deals with the buckling analysis of rectangular functionally graded material (FGM) plates using classical plate theory (CPT). Finite element method has been applied for the modelling and buckling analysis of FGM plate. Uniaxial and biaxial compression loads along with simply supported boundary conditions on rectangular FGM plates are investigated. Convergence of the solution obtained by MATLAB has also been studied by varying the mesh size. Obtained results are compared with the existing literature, it shows that the buckling characteristics are closer to the reference results. By varying the geometric parameter a/b critical buckling load variation has been calculated and Power law index is also been evaluated.
