Abstract
1. It has been proved that the main features of the process of bubbling air through polar media can also be extended to nonpolar media. 2. It has been. confirmed that no component is selectively carried away from hydrocarbon mixtures. The composition of the phase carried away is identical to the composition of the liquid through which air is bubbled. 3. It has been found that the foam-forming capacities of pure and mixed hydrocarbons and the amount of liquid droplets carried away are related. The number of droplets carried away from pure hydrocarbons drops with increasing length of the hydrocarbon chain. The amount carried away from mixtures, which have a high foam-forming capacity, is very small. 4. The strength of films of pure hydrocarbons increases with the length of the hydrocarbon chain, while the viscosity rises considerably. The increase in strength of films from hydrocarbon mixtures is due to reinforcement of the adsorbed layers and to the action of the so-called energy gradient.
