Abstract
The critical detachment force required to remove and sink large ensembles of fine and medium size hydrophobic galena particles from the air/solution interface was investigated using a centrifuge technique. From the result it was found that the fine particle ensembles were less tenaciously held to the interface than the medium size particle ensembles. In addition, a series of flotation experiments were carried out with the same particle size fractions using a small scale batch flotation cell. It was found that the flotation recovery could be related to the experimentally determined detachment forces.
