Abstract
An approach is offered to the description of subgroups of the general linear group over a commutative semilocal ring, containing the group of diagonal matrices, using the Bruhat decomposition or an analog of it. In particular, new proofs are obtained of the results of RZhMat, 1977, 5A284, 1980, 2A217.
