Abstract
In childhood, bronchogenic cysts may produce life-threatening obstruction of the tracheobronchial tree. Four patients have been successfully treated by surgical excision of the cyst without mortality or significant postoperative morbidity. Two patients were operated upon in the first year of life because of severe symptoms. Bronchogenic cysts should be considered in the differential diagnosis of acute and recurrent respiratory illnesses in children. When diagnosed they should be excised.
