Abstract

Broadband Raman amplification is demonstrated in a dispersion compensating fibre (DCF). A polarisation combined four channel wavelength division multiplexing 14 xxnm laser diode unit is used for the pumping light source. Losses in the DCF are completely compensated for by means of the Raman gain over 50 nm bandwidth within /spl plusmn/0.5 dB variation.
