Abstract
We demonstrate a broadband and high-sensitivity terahertz (THz) time-resolved system relying on THz generation and detection in thick nonlinear crystals. A phase grating etched at the front surface of a 2 mm thick GaP crystal enables noncollinear phase matching between a diffracted near-infrared pulse and a non-diffracted THz pulse. Our system features a 6 THz bandwidth, similar to the one obtained with a standard configuration relying on 0.2 mm thick GaP crystals, but provides a larger spectral peak intensity, up to a factor of 400, due to an increased nonlinear interaction length.
