Abstract
We operate the variational iteration method (VIM) for obtaining bright and dark optical solitons for (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equations, that appear in the anomalous dispersion regimes and the normal dispersive regimes respectively. We derive diverse types of solutions that contain bright optical solitons and dark optical solitons, which are very important from a physical point of view of nonlinear optics and electro magnetic wave propagations. The VIM, that will be employed here, demonstrates the solutions in a rapidly convergent series structure.
