Abstract

Power factor correction (PFC) based bridgeless boost rectifier working as front end converter (FEC) in uninterruptible power supply (UPS) applications has emerged as a highly suitable and reliable solution. UPS are mainly used to provide quick backup to the sensitive loads. In this paper, synchronized gate pulse (SGP) control technique has been proposed to accomplish the dual functions including PFC while compensating the harmonic distortions. The control is modified in such a way that it effectively reduces the switch count from conduction path during AC power cycle compared to its conventional gate control techniques. The topology adopted in this paper characterized by a simple arrangement of two controlled power switch with a semi-bridge and a DC filter capacitor. Additionally, bridgeless boost rectifier instead of single phase bridge rectifier improved the DC-link voltage. The effectiveness of the suggested control is investigated through extensive MATLAB/ Simulink simulation studies.
