Abstract

Angola is a diamond rich country. It is also a country that, after decades of war, desperately needs to bring itself out of poverty. In order to do this, Angola now has sought and obtained positive trade relations with all of the BRICS countries of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. This paper investigates the BRICS countries historical and diplomatic involvement in the Angolan diamond sector. In a broader sense, this paper examines Angola’s collaboration with BRICS and argues that diamonds in Angola have helped foster better co-ordination and cooperation between the BRICS countries. Moreover, BRICS countries should and do have a role in the development of Angola, and the developing African country needs to learn valuable lessons from its developmental experiences if it is continue on its accelerated growth path.
