Abstract

The breech presentation is a maternity emergency that is often only diagnosed at the point of the buttocks presenting. There is often little warning as many breech presentations are diagnosed only in labour. JRCALC guidance on the management of the breech presentation was updated in 2023, giving step-by-step clear guidance at every stage of the birth progression. In the prehospital setting, where births are rare in themselves, the added complexity of the breech presentation requires the clinician to have extra vigilance and adhere to the guidance that is set out within the current article.
