Abstract
Joachim D Pleil National Exposure Research Laboratory, Office of Research and Development, US Environmental Protection Agency pleil.joachim@epa.gov The Pittsburgh Conference and Exposition, or ‘PittCon’ (www.pittcon.org/), is one of the largest international conferences for analytical chemistry and instrumentation, typically attracting about 25 000 attendees and 1000 commercial exhibitors. PittCon began in 1950 as a small spectroscopy and analytical chemistry gathering and, as the name implies, originated in Pittsburgh, PA. The conference has outgrown its humble beginnings and is now held in early March every year in the United States’ largest convention centers, rotating among Chicago, IL, Atlanta, GA, Orlando, FL and New Orleans, LA. In addition to the instrumentation exposition, PittCon offers over 2000 technical presentations, thousands of poster presentations, numerous plenary lectures, and specialty workshops for analytical instrumentation. Recently, the organizers have implemented a series of ‘Networking Sessions’ as an extra opportunity for attendees to share expertise and opinions to cope with the technological explosion of innovations in new subspecialties.
