Abstract

Objective: To describe the breastfeeding characteristics of neonates with Kangaroo care. Object and method: A prospective, descriptive study was conducted with 120 low weight newborn babies (birth weight between 1500 g and 2200 g) at Tu Du Hospital. Those neonates who were between the first 14 days after birth and 40 weeks of age adjustably and cared by Kangaroo method. The Kangaroo care was categorized as early-, median- and late-group depending on the time of carrying out. Results: The early Kangaroo group had the highest rate of breastfeeding completely (93.3%) and the lowest rate of bolostrum intake (0%). The difference was significant (p <0.05).
