Breast ultrasound for the non-expert: Pearls and pitfalls

Abstract

This lecture aims at highlighting a system to approach scanning the breast for the general sonographer and sonologists. It will provide a review of the multifaceted appearance of breast cancer as well as commonly encountered benign breast and chest wall pathologies as well as highlighting pathologies in the male breast and what can be expected in the paediatric patient. The clinical utility of some of the advancing ultrasound technologies such as microflow imaging and elastography will also be discussed. Finally, some helpful tips and pitfalls to avoid will also be addressed.
