Abstract

The determination of parameters describing a wave at the point of breaking is considered. The desired characteristics are the wave height, wave length, angle of wave crest with shoreline and water depth. The problem is solved for the simplified situation of a plane sloped beach by introducing a new hybrid approach which uses cnoidal wave height transformation and linear wave length transformation. The approach yields results which compare favorably with existing experimental data on breaker angle and breaker height.
