Abstract

Evaluating vacuum brazed IN-800/VZ-2177/IN-800 joints by changing the brazing parameters was performed. The joint contains two intermetallic phases, B2Cr5P and Cr4Ni3P4, in the Ni-rich matrix. The quantity of Cr4Ni3P4 compound in brazed joint is reduced with increment of brazing temperature/time because of B2Cr5P coarsening. Bonding strengths of joints are restricted by size of the B2Cr5P precipitates. Specimens brazed at 1323 and 1353 K with 40 μm VZ-2177 foil, coarsening of the B2Cr5P compound is not prominent, so they have the best average bonding strength of 236 MPa. The brazing temperature increased to 1383 K or filler metal thickness increased to 80 μm result in coarsening of B2Cr5P precipitates. Shear strengths of joints are impaired. The optimised brazing condition using the thickness of 40 μm VZ-2177 foil is between 1323 and 1353 K for 1200 seconds.
