Abstract

It is said that the function of the brain includes all the functions of the body. This characteristic of the brain makes it appear as if “from one to many, and from many to one” like the heart organ. The function of the heart is to pump blood from one organ of the heart to all parts of the body including the brain. Therefore, the brain and the heart are seen as two special organs and they are interconnected. Before looking in detail about the brain and the heart, it is good that we first look at the function of the brain. This brain function can be mapped using various techniques. At the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital, brain function mapping can be done using magnetoencephalography (MEG), electroencephalography (EEG), electrocorticography (ECoG), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), brain stimulation during conscious brain surgery, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) ) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). This method can help neurosurgeons perform surgeries more safely.
