Abstract

Bowel dysfunction has been one of the major issues in the treatment of patients with spinal cord injury. Bowel management aims at helping patients with spinal cord injury achieve regular and predictable emptying of the bowel,decrease the incidence of relative symptoms and use minimum necessary physical or pharmacological interventions. An effective bowel management can reduce the incidence of intestinal evacuation and improve patients' life quality. In this paper,advances in the bowel management in patients with spinal cord injury have been reviewed.
