Abstract

This essay reconsiders the chronology of the construction of the cathedral of Bourges, delineating projects prior to the late twelfth-century date proposed by Branner. Two projects emerge, the first going back to the construction of the city wall in the 1170s, and the second from a decade later. In the scheme of rotated triangles the author suggests a critical linkage with Notre-Dame of Paris.
