If a billiard ball bounces along a smooth horizontal surface, the bounce height decreases after every bounce. One might expect that the horizontal speed will also decrease after every bounce. In fact it remains constant. By comparison, the horizontal speed of a superball sometimes increases and sometimes decreases after each bounce.
