Abstract
The above statement was most strongly emphasized this year by the devastating floods that visited Kansas. The rainfall in Lyon county at Emporia was excessive-57.36 inches-23.46 inches above the average. This was aggravated by the unevenness of some of it. July had 15.48 inches as against 3.48 inches usual in this month. This maximum in the curve was preceded by a regularly increasing heavy downfall and followed by a slow decrease, in this way resulting in the prolonged heavy flooding.
