Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this article is to provide an up‐to‐date survey of the business environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina that may serve as a guide for doing business in this turbulent country. Our analysis provides a starting point for understanding the demographic, historical, political, economic, and cultural influences that have converged to produce one of the world's most perplexing business environments. We aim to provide the reader with a basic understanding of the political, social, and economic upheaval that has engulfed the country since 1990 and explain how this has impacted the business environment and managerial practices. Furthermore, we explain how managerial and systemic legacies stemming from the communist era from 1945 to 1989, and a range of cultural, political, and historical influences, continue to shape business practices in this dynamic country. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
