Abstract
Some 20 years ago, comedian and comedy writer Jill Edwards was casting around for another string to add to her professional bow. Her comedy double act ‘Pep Talk’ was coming to an end. (Her performing partner has decided that a life on the boards was not for her.) At the same time, Jill was also establishing herself as a scriptwriter providing comedic sketch material, dramatic scripts and general ‘spec’ projects for other people. Despite her success in this area she was not entirely enjoying the solo life of a writer sat in front of a word processor (or was it a typewriter?) 24×7. Missing the interaction with other performers and the general bonhomie that comes with live performance in general a germ of an idea slowly started to develop that perhaps she could use her expansive experience of the comedy circuit, the bookers, the venues, performers and performing – to set up a Comedy Workshop through which she could pass on her considerable knowledge of all these areas onto a new generation of stand-up comics and performers.
