Abstract

The article presents the results of a study of literature about Siberia in the book collection of G.A. Stroganov stored in the Research Library of Tomsk State University. For the first time materials about the development of Siberia are considered in connection with the history of the Stroganov family and of their family library. A hypothesis is made that the Stroganov family influenced the formation of Siberian economy and culture in the 16th – 17th centuries. The novelty of the research is that it studies how the development of Siberia is described in French, German and Russian books from the Stroganovs’ library.
