Abstract
Youth Culture and Private Space introduced me to the work of Siân Lincoln and it was a fortunate introduction that provided a valuable insight into the salience of young people’s bedroom culture. As Lincoln argues, in the Introduction, the bedroom is often one of the first spaces over which young people have some sense of ownership; and it can be a touch point of familiarity and permanence as well as a place of escapism, a canvas to mark out identities and somewhere to lose themselves in mediated worlds. Importantly, the bedroom is not presented in isolation but as a space explicitly informed by the household in which the bedroom exists and the wider public sphere.
