Abstract

AbstractThe subject of this work was the study of the mechanical strength, fracture character and microstructure of the Al2O3/Al/Al2O3 joints, formed by liquid‐state bonding of alumina using Al interlayers of two thicknesses (30 and 300 µm) at a temperature of 973 K under a vacuum of 0.2 mPa for 5 min. The bend strength of the joints was measured by a four‐point bending test at room temperature. Scanning electron microscopy was applied for detailed characterization of the interface structure and failure character on fractured joint surfaces. An analysis of results has shown that the decrease in the Al layer thickness leads to stronger Al2O3/Al/Al2O3 joints accompanied with the change of failure character.
