Abstract
The coup in Bolivia on 10 November 2019 brought an end to one of the longest-lasting socialist governments in Latin America. President Evo Morales was removed from office following a military intervention, police mutiny, violent protests and foreign intervention on the part of the Organisation of American States (OAS). This article seeks to dissect and analyse the various factors that led to the success of the coup, its aftermath and the future for socialism in Bolivia. In particular, it focuses on the role of the Bolivian military and the police, far-right political organisations, private media and foreign actors, including the government of the United States and the OAS.
