Abstract
Abstract A potentially challenging area of development for parents is supporting their children through concerns about physical appearance and body image. Children and teens face pressures from society and their family’s own cultural standards of beauty, which can affect their self-esteem and health. Parents can best help their children by reflecting on their own standards of beauty and body image, providing a healthful environment that supports physical health and self-esteem, and communicating openly with their children about these challenges.
