Understanding how coronary vessels develop is important for designing better strategies to repair ischemic hearts. In this issue of Developmental Cell, D'Amato etal. report that BMP2 and CXCL12/CXCR4 act sequentially on endocardial cells to drive coronary angiogenesis and artery morphogenesis.
