Abstract

This is certainly the most often cited book on blood groups. Unfortunately, its popularity appears to have been based more on fluent and persuasive style of writing than scientific reliability. This new edition has been improved by elimination of some of the misinformation of former editions. Namely, the chapter on blood groups and disease, little d, and the so-called shorthand notations are gone. Unfortunately, the deleted material has been replaced with other misinformation. An outstanding example is the so-called LW factor (where the authors rediscover a fact pointed out by Landsteiner and Wiener more than 25 years ago).
