Abstract

New compounded high compatible blends of Paraffin wax (PW) and Microcrystalline waxes (MCW) of specific properties were prepared. The additives include ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer as a viscosity modifier as well as the tackifing resins,( poly hydrogenated dicyclo pentadiene (HD) and poly alpha methylstyrene (MS)) enhanced the wax performance based on molecular weight (Mw),the number of carbons and the crystallinity. The ingredients were combined together of high compatibility within the wax blends. The MS and HD resins created promising physical, mechanical and technological properties to be used in food packaging, hot melt, labeling and various industrial applications. The blend compatibility , melting behavior (congealing point (CP), softening point (SP) and drop melting point (DMP)), dynamic viscosity, hardness (low penetration value) , the mechanical properties (tensile strength and elongation at break) as well as adhesion property are dependent on the composition of the wax blends.
