Abstract

AbstractConvex combination of the L‐stable Lobatto IIIC method and the A‐stable Lobatto IIIA method leads to the new class of blended Lobatto methods. These integration schemes offer the possibility to adapt the numerical damping and asymptotic behaviour to the given tolerance and the stiffness of the multibody system. The paper introduces the method class and discusses advantages and disadvantages of numerical damping. Moreover, a parameter function is given, which optimizes the efficiency by studying the cost of accuracy. As examples, a linear equation and a stiff pendulum are simulated.
