Abstract

Long and/or heavy (irregular) vaginal bleeds are still the most common background to hysterectomy. Quite rightly women's tolerance to vaginal bleeds has declined over the last few decades as the percentage of women with work outside home has increased world wide. A hysterectomy is indicated when a woman cannot maintain her hemoglobin value without difficulty but also when the bleeding pattern is socially unacceptable.
