Bleeding isolated ectopic (Duodenal) varix as the initial presentation of portal hypertension

Abstract

Ectopic varices are large portosystemic collaterals in locations other than the gastroesophageal region. They account for up to 5% of all variceal bleeding. We present a case of obscure gastrointestinal bleed where bleeding isolated duodenal varix was identified as the initial manifestation of portal hypertension.
