Abstract

Bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) with iterative decoding (ID) is extended to multiple antenna systems with noncoherent detection. A performance bound for space-time BICM-ID (ST-BICM-ID) with ideal error-free feedback (EFF) in the Rayleigh channel is derived. It is shown that the EFF bounds provide a good estimate of the asymptotic performance of ST-BICM-ID. In recent literature, ID schemes with hard decision feedback (HDF), as well as soft feedback (SF), have been investigated. To enhance the performance of HDF/ID for ST-BICM with little additional complexity, we introduce the so-called uniform soft feedback ID (USF/ID) scheme. Our simulation results verify that applying USF/ID to ST-BICM can achieve impressive performance gain over HDF/ID and is practically attractive for complexity-constrained wireless applications.
