Abstract

Iterative decoding algorithm is an effective method to improve the performance of system receiver. It has been used in Bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) for overcoming the drawback of BICM over AWGN channels. Since the iterative algorithm increase the complexity of the receiver and incur larger delay, a modified iterative decoding scheme with variable iteration number for Bit-interleaved coded modulation with iterative decoding (BICM-ID) is proposed in this paper. Different from the conventional iterative decoding scheme for BICM-ID, this proposed scheme can stop iteration by using the stopping criterion based on the principle of minimum cross-entropy. Simulation results show that the variable iterative decoding scheme can reduce the meaningless iterations effectively without obvious performance degradation.
