Abstract

Various PRML systems for the (1,7) code and the 16/17 GCR code are experimentally studied. We constructed an experimental evaluation system for PRML channel using a spinstand and estimated the performance of various PRML systems. The results show that PR(1,1,1, − 1, − 1, − 1)Ml, PR(1,2,1, − 1, − 1, − 1)Ml and Pr(1,2,1,0, − 1, − 2, − 1)ML for the (1,7) code have an excellent performance at high linear density recording.
