Abstract

Performance is compared for various PRML systems for three types of codes, (1,7)RLL code, 8/9(0,4/4) code, and 16/17(0,6/6) code. In the high-density digital magnetic recording system with partial erasure, the bit error rate is derived by computer simulation for PR4ML, EPR4ML, E2PR4ML, ME2PR4ML, PR(1,1,1,–1,–1,–1)ML, PR(1,2,1,–1,–2,–1)ML, and PR(1,2,1,0,–1,–2,–1)ML systems. It is found that good performance is exhibited by the PR(1,2,1,–1,–2,–1)ML system for the (1,7)RLL code, and by the PR(1,2,1,0,–1,–2,–1)ML system for the 8/9(0,4/4) and 16/17(0,6/6) codes. © 1999 Scripta Technica, Electron Comm Jpn Pt 2, 82(12): 1–9, 1999
