Abstract
The theory of bistability in glass prism-metal film-dielectric attenuated total reflection (ATR) system (Kretchmann system), in which the dielectric medium has a relatively small cubic nonlinearity of quite general type, is presented. The analytical formulae have been derived for an incident radiation intensity threshold and for other characteristics of a bistability process.
