Abstract

Abstract Bismuth-37.7Pb-11.3Sn-8.5Cd is a bismuth-base alloy that melts through the temperature range 160-190 F. It shrinks immediately upon solidification, grows back to zero in about an hour and then shows more growth. This shrinkage-growth behavior makes it ideal for proof casting and precision measurement of internal dimensions. Originally this alloy was developed for use by children for casting toy soldiers and other small objects. Among the low-melting alloys, it performs best for spraying in the spray forming of masks and molds and in metallizing. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and tensile properties. It also includes information on casting, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: Bi-37. Producer or source: Producers of low-melting alloys.
