Abstract

This study investigates novel flapping wing mechanism designs. Using mechanism synthesis, we aim to discover new flapping wing mechanisms for use in the design and development of biomimetic aerial vehicles. A thorough examination of existing flapping wing mechanics found in the literature is carried out. After specialization for 6, 7, and 8 number of links, we constructed 8 kinematic chains using Yan's Creative Design Methodology. This design methodology led to the discovery of 12 distinct mechanisms that can be used in the development, production, and performance testing of biomimetic aerial vehicles. This design process can also be used to create various functional mechanisms for birds' tails, heads, and necks, as well as mechanized devices.
